Santiago Villagomez CEO & co-founder of Energía Real
Santiago is CEO and co-founder of Energía Real, a company pioneering the distributed energy space in Mexico, focused on the sale of renewable energy to commercial properties and operating businesses. Over the course of two years, Energia Real has become the dominant player in the PPA market for the commercial and light industrial sectors in Mexico. Today Energia Real operates 4 MW and is in the process of installing 20MW of solar systems in shopping centers throughout Mexico, in addition to exploring other important projects in the renewable energy space.
Prior to co-founding Energia Real, Santiago was the head of investments of Gran Ciudad, one of Black Creek Group’s private equity real estate platforms where he worked since the fund’s inception in 2013. At Gran Ciudad, he was directly in charge of deploying a US$110 million fund focused on developing multifamily for-rent communities in Mexico City. Prior to that Mr. Villagomez was part of MIRA Companies, where he worked in the investments and asset management teams. Mr. Villagomez has closed multiple real estate transactions with an estimated total equity investment of over US$140 million. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.
